Certain treks take you to some of the most pristine locations untouched by human presence. One such trek is the beautiful Dev Roopa Trek near the infamous Malana village in Himachal Pradesh’s Parvati Valley. Running close to the Malana river the trail takes you to the vast fields of Dev Roopa perched at the edge amidst mighty Himalayan peaks like Ali Ratna, Tiger Teeth and others. Dev Roopa meaning “Descent of God” lives to the name with the incomprehensible beauty of grasslands as wide as several football fields with multiple streams meandering through them that makes it look like celestial. The trail takes you through unique flora and fauna, highland meadows, steep climbs all of which bolster your trekking experience to Dev Roopa. The high altitude gain in the only significant challenge in this trek wich thus demands prior trekking experience or at least good physical fitness. Tread on the less frequented path towards one of the most fantastic locations in this world. The best time for Dev Roopa trek is in the months of June to October.
Itinary
Day 1: Drive from Kasol to Malana Dam. Trek to Behali.
Today we will drive from Kasol to Malana Dam and go for a small trek to the Malana village famous for its world-renowned unique tradition. With its own social culture and tradition having strict beliefs and customs. We will then proceed to trek towards Behali campsite alongside the Malana river and camp for the night. Overnight in tents.
Day 2: Behali to Mota Grahan – 6 hours
Today we trek from Behali campsite to Mota Grahan through dense forests and cross “thatch” which are grazing fields used by shepherds as grazing grounds which are huge and plain. We will reach Mota Grahan campsite and camp at riverside overnight in tents.
Day 3: Mota Grahan to Bogdi – 6 hours
Today will be a long trek to Bogdi campsite from Mota Grahan. Bogdi can also be considered as the base camp of Dev Roopa. Reach the Bogdi campsite and relax for the day. Overnight in tents.
Day 4: Bogdi to Dev Roopa and back – 7 hours
Today we will start our trek to the majestic grasslands of Dev Roopa with 3 steep climbs lasting for an hour each alongside a stream coming from Dev Roopa which is a sacred place for locals and is known as the “Descent of God”. Dev Roopa is absolutely huge as big as multiple football fields in size. The grassland is perfectly plain with streams running in loops and curves through the place. We will then descend to Bogdi campsite and spend the night.
Day 5: Bogdi to Behali – 5 hours trek. Drive to Kasol.
We will retrace our steps and descend to Behali campsite and further down till the road where our vehicles will pick you up and drive to Kasol. We bid you goodbye at Kasol.
